Gardaí have announced 17 new zones in Kerry where speed cameras will be in operation from 1st January.
Safety cameras operate in areas where there is a history of speed-related collisions known as speed enforcement zones.
There were already 76 such areas in Kerry, but from 1st January, there will be 17 new areas where speed cameras may be placed.
Among these new zones are the N21 at Headleys Bridge and the county bounds with Limerick, the N72 between Killorglin and Killarney, and the N70 between Kenmare and Templenoe.
Six more stretches of road in Kerry have been referred to GoSafe, the contractor for speed cameras, which were highlighted by communities or local gardaí.
GoSafe will assess these locations to decide whether they’re suitable for speed cameras.
