KILLARNEY

Killarney Golf Club Men’s Club, had teams taking part in two West Munster Area Semi-finals over the last week, and unfortunately both were lost by the odd match, and both were very close encounters and were defeated on the last green played in both matches.

Our team in the Michael Cashman Trophy were up against Ceann Sibeal at Ceann Sibeal, and before the match were unfortunate to lose one of their usual team members due to a hand injury. The results were as follows,
• Timmy Brosnan & Tim O’Meara lost 3/2,
• Jack Buckley & Tim O’Keeffe won on the 19th
• Eddie MacSweeney & John Wall lost 3/2
• Shane Kelly & John Murphy won 2/1
• Gerard O’Meara & Sean “The Castle” O’Donoghue lost on the `19th green

The team were under the “new” Management of Tim O’Meara and Dermot Doyle,
as the regular team Manager, Connie Brosnan was in Spain representing Ireland in Golf, in the European Games for “ Organ Donor Recipients”.

The team in the Junior Cup were at Castleisland on Saturday and they received a bye into the 2nd round where they were up against Castleisland. The team Manager was Mark Beckett, Assistant Professional at the Club. The Team Members were Niall McCarthy, Darren Mulcahy, Jason Arthur, Mike Maher & Baden Maher, and the substitutes were Sean Moynihan Robert Cussen & Ryan Kelliher. The team were comfortable winners over Castleisland, and then faced Newcastle-West in the Area Semi-Final where they were defeated in the last match on the 18th green. Hard luck to both teams, and ye did us proud and put in great efforts on our behalf, and our thanks to all concerned.

The Boys Club Junior Team were at Newcastle-West G.C. where they were up against Ballybunion in The West Munster Area Final, and they eventually succumbed 3 and a half to 1 and a half in their encounter. The team Manager was Liam Healy, ably assisted by Junior Officer John Curtin.
The results were as follows,
• Luke Walsh lost 2/1
• Niall McCarthy won 2 up
• Darren Mulcahy lost by 2 holes,
• Ryan Kelliher lost on the 18th green
• Conor Stack was 3 up when his match was called in.

Our next Club competition will be the Moriarty’s Heather Restaurant sponsored singles stableford competition which is one of our Club exchange days, and a GOY competition, and will be played on Ballybunion Old Course on Sunday the 9th of July.
