Sligo survive; Waterford await 1st Division playoff victor

Sligo Rovers secured their top-flight status on a dramatic final day of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Owen Elding's second-half penalty was the difference, as John Russell's side got the required 2-1 win at Shamrock Rovers.

Waterford will have to plan for the relegation/promotion play-off after being held to a 1-all draw with Galway United at the R-S-C.

Bohemians ran riot at Drogheda United, a 4-1 win sealing fourth place - which could be enough for European football, if Shamrock Rovers win the FAI Cup next weekend.

St Pat's came up short in their quest for a top-four finish - their trip to Shelbourne finished scoreless.

Derry City were 1-0 winners over Cork City at Turner's Cross.
