LADIES DOUBLES MATCHPLAY FINAL
Well one would be forgiven to think that Garth Brooks could have been found down the 3rd fairway of Beaufort Golf Club belting out the lyrics of one of his famous songs… and as the song goes
“And the thunder rolls and the lighting strikes” that is exactly the scene that played out on Thursday evening last as the final of the Ladies doubles matchplay final took place.
Rita Kelleher and Marie Flood took off into a flying lead over Laura Furlong and Mary Jo Coffey with a 2-up lead after two holes and were well on their way before they had to head to the club house to let the miserable weather pass. After almost 30 minutes the final resumed and to be fair the weather behaved with the ladies enjoying a wonderful, closely fought, very tight battle. The fact that there was only one shot being given between the pairings, made it a final that sky sports would be thrilled to cover. As the evening rolled on so did the scores and the holes counted down with the winning pair of Laura Furlong and Mary Jo Coffey taking the victory on the 17th hole. Lady Captain Mary Garvey would like to thank all the ladies who participated in the matchplay and congratulated the four ladies on a great final with some outstanding golf being played by both pairings.
Captain Charlie McAuleys Prize to the Ladies
Congratulations to Captain Charlie McAuley on a very successful Captains Day on Sunday 28th June.

MENS CAPTAINS DAYS
Congratulations to Captain Charlie McAuley on a very successful Captains Day on Sunday 28th June.
There was a fantastic turnout out of golfers with a full time-sheet for the men for the stroke play competition.
The weather played its part as the day went on, leaving the drizzle of rain and wind behind and the sun came out warming the golfers as they participated in the most prestigious competition in the club calendar. Captain Charlie sent every golfer on their way with a lovely goody bag to help enhance their day.
Captain Charlie had a spectacular display of prizes. Each prize going to a very worthy winner.
There was a tremendous turnout for the prizegiving which was a true reflection on the admiration and respect that all the members have for Captain Charlie. Captain Charlie thanked General Manager Pauline and all her front office staff for all their help and support they have given him throughout his year. All the golfers availed of the hospitality provided by Britta and her staff and Sebastian and his crew in the kitchen after their round. Captain Charlie praised Padraig Bruton and his hardworking greenkeeping staff (and the newly installed robots) for having the course in such excellent condition.
The scores were incredibly close with some marvellous golf played.
The honours of the past captains’ prize went to the 2006 Captain - Pat Quill.
There must have been great excitement with Paddy Gumley hit his shot on the 15th hole to find himself only 6’ 5” away, to win the nearest to the pin competition.
Longest drive on the 8th hole was driven a country mile by Denis Scart O Sullivan to claim the title.
For the fourth year in a row, Stephen Crookes won the Gross prize with a remarkable score of 75.
Following the prizegiving Captain Charlie and the members enjoyed a beautiful meal in the newly refurbished Castle Corr restaurant at Beaufort Golf Club. A good night of chat, banter, shots being replayed, advice and fun was had by all.
Winning the Captains Prize is considered one of the highest honours a member can achieve, and James Kelleher can now add his name to that wonderful list.
