A young Kilcummin man who had to learn how to walk again after a serious road crash has told TY students at a road safety conference about the dangers of the road.
The AXA Roadsafe Roadshow 2026 took place at the INEC Killarney today, attended by around 1,900 students from secondary schools in Kerry.
The conference, now in its 19th year, aims to promote road safety among young adults.
Kilcummin man Seán O’Leary was just 22 when he survived a head-on collision near Abbeyfeale in 2021, which was the fault of another driver.
Seán had been called up to the Kerry senior football panel, but in the crash broke two legs, fractured his sternum, and suffered post-traumatic stress and required multiple surgeries.
He says he lost everything he had worked for with football, in the space of ten seconds.
Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Seán says he is one of the lucky ones.
