Woman, left in a phone box at birth by her Kerry mother, hopes to inspire others

A woman, who was left in a phone box at birth by her Kerry mother, hopes her story will inspire others to trace their biological parents.

Helen Ward and her brothers, David McBride and John Dowling, were all abandoned after their births before being found by strangers.

Mr McBride was discovered in the seat of a car, while Ms Ward and Mr Dowling were both found in telephone boxes.

It emerged, following nationwide media appeals and DNA testing, that the three had the same biological mother and father.

Their birth mother, originally from North Kerry, was a Catholic who had had a long-term relationship with their father, a married Protestant.

Their story was told in an RTÉ TV documentary called The Phone Box Babies aired last night:
