A North Kerry man has been sentenced to three years in prison after threatening to kill a Garda last summer.
34-year-old Killian Kirby, of 61 Kilcaragh, Lixnaw, appeared before Tralee Circuit Court, where Judge Ronan Munro delivered the sentence.
Mr Kirby was represented in court by solicitor Brendan Ahern.
The court heard that on Monday, 8 July 2024, at Rylane, Duagh, Mr Kirby threatened to kill or cause serious harm to Sergeant Diarmuid O’Neill and Garda Grace Quirke.
He was found guilty under Section 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997; and sentenced to three years in prison, backdated to 6 August last year, with the final 18 months suspended under strict conditions.
In a related offence on the same date and at the same location, Mr Kirby produced two metal bars and a machete in a threatening manner during a dispute.
For this, he received a twelve-month prison sentence, to run concurrently.
A third charge, involving the production of a metal bar, also resulted in a twelve-month concurrent sentence.
The fourth and final charge, of trespassing at a private residence and committing criminal damage, was taken into consideration with the primary charge.
