Woman airlifted from Blasket Islands after sustaining leg injury

A woman has been airlifted from the Blasket Islands after sustaining a leg injury in a fall.

The woman, who is aged in her late 20s, suffered a suspected sprained or broken ankle in the fall.

The OPW requested the assistance of the Rescue R115 helicopter around 1pm.

The operation was coordinated by Valentia Coast Guard which says there was heavy fog at the time which made conditions to land on the island challenging.

R115 landed at 2pm and transported the woman to University Hospital Kerry for treatment.
