A county councillor was asked to watch his language, after swearing while expressing his frustration over the lack of progress on the main road in and out of West Kerry, the N86.
Sinn Féin councillor Robert Brosnan was speaking in response to a report from the council’s Chief Executive, which included an update on road projects.
The CEO’s report outlined that funding had been allocated for three national road projects.
These are the N22 Farranfore to Killarney project, N86 Tralee to An Daingean road, and the N69 Listowel bypass.
The Chief Executive Feargal Reidy said that there was €3 million for the N22, and €1 million each for the other two projects.
The funding will go towards advancing design, fencing, and land acquisition for the three road projects.
Speaking at the meeting, Sinn Féin councillor for the Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District Robert Brosnan said the funding will not provide one iota or ounce of tar for the N86.
He said people were promised tar, and asked where the hell is the f***ing tar.
Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Fianna Fáil’s Breandán Fitzgerald, stepped in to ask Cllr Brosnan to watch his language.
The Sinn Féin councillor said people are waiting up to 14 years for this road to be improved, and there’s less than seven kilometres done so far.
He asked for a review to be carried out to provide money for the road, which has never been in such a state, while none of the money will go towards tar, chip, or the foundations.
Cllr Brosnan said whatever fence is built using the €1 million will be rotten by the time the road is done.
Kerry County Council’s Director of Roads Frank Hartnett told Cllr Brosnan he shares his frustration.
He said there are sections of the road ready to go to contract, but Transport Infrastructure Ireland does not have the funding this year to take that step; he said the TII has committed to looking at this for 2026.
