Uisce Éireann has committed to buying generators for areas which are at risk of losing water supply when power is out.
Brosna was one of a number of areas left without water for several days, partly due to power outages at the reservoir due to freezing temperatures and snow in January.
Uisce Éireann provided the update in response to representations by Kerry TD Michael Cahill.
People in the wider Brosna area lost power for several days at the beginning of January after freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall.
The village also lost water supply for several days, with the weather conditions causing power outages at local treatment plants and reservoirs, as well as bursts on the water network.
During this outage, Uisce Éireann attempted to bring a generator to the area to reinstate water supply, but it broke down on route.
Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill had called for a permanent generator on site in Brosna to support the water pump.
He said it makes perfect sense that vulnerable locations would have the back up of a generator to avoid any further multiple-day lockdowns.
Uisce Éireann has now confirmed to Deputy Cahill that it is mobilising a programme to look at the purchase of fixed and mobile generators for key risk sites.
This followed a meeting between Uisce Éireann CEO Niall Gleeson, COO Eamon Gallen, and the Taoiseach, after Storm Eowyn.
Uisce Éireann did not yet confirm which specific key risk sites will benefit from new fixed generators, as it’s currently compiling a review of these sites.
It said it will be advancing this programme over the coming months to provide increased resilience to our water supply infrastructure.
Deputy Michael Cahill says Brosna has to be top of the list of those who must get a back-up generator for water supply.
