Uisce Éireann is being called on to expedite works to replace a water main in Tralee which has previously burst and flooded homes, while leaving thousands without water.
In July, three homes were flooded in the Shanakill estate after the pipe servicing the area burst; 10,000 people were also left without water for a time as a result.
Sinn Féin councillor Paul Daly raised the issue at the recent meeting of Kerry County Council.
In July, three homes were flooded with parts of these houses badly damaged, while items sentimental value were destroyed by the flooding.
This was the second time the pipe had burst; five homes were flooded in the area last March.
Cllr Paul Daly asked the council to write to Uisce Éireann seeking a start date for the replacement works for this water pipe serving the Shanakill area.
He was told by the council that Uisce Éireann says its target to start construction on this project is in the first quarter next year; Uisce Éireann says the design is currently progressing.
Cllr Daly says he isn’t filled with confidence that the works will begin in the first quarter, as he says he was recently told by Uisce Éireann that there was no timeframe for the replacement works.
He called for the works to be expedited.
His party colleague Deirdre Ferris was also critical of the timeline for works to be carried out in on the mains in Shanakill.
