Sinn Féin councillors in Tralee are calling on Uisce Éireann to put works to replace a waterpipe in the Kileen area on the top of its list.
Last week, three homes in the Shanakill estate were flooded after the pipe servicing the area burst; 10,000 people were also left without water for a time as a result.
This is the second time the pipe has burst in recent months; five homes were flooded in the area last March.
Sinn Féin councillors Paul Daly and Deirdre Ferris want Uisce Éireann to officially confirm that it will fund the replacement works.
Shanakill resident Pat Murphy says it was devastating to wake in the middle of the night to find his house flooded:
Parts of the homes were badly damaged, while items of sentimental value including old family photographs were also destroyed by the flooding.
Siobhan O'Mahony’s home was also flooded; she says it was a terrible shock to lose everything and to see the damage caused.
Following heavy rainfall on Saturday, the pipes became blocked and sewage began fill in the gardens of the three flooded homes.
Siobhan O'Mahony contacted Uisce Éireann on Saturday night and was told them a representative would be out to them within four hours.
