Trial of American man charged with murdering Michael Gaine to begin next January in Dublin

The trial of an American man charged with murdering Kenmare farmer Mike Gaine is due to begin next January.

Michael Kelley from Maine in the United States, but of no fixed abode in Tralee, is accused of murdering Michael Gaine at Carrig, Kenmare.

Mr Gaine is believed to have been killed sometime between 20 March and 21 March 2025.

54-year-old Michael Kelley's trial is expected to begin on the 11 January 2027 at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

It's being reported that there are 191 witnesses in the book of evidence, and that the trial is estimated to last up to nine weeks.

Michael Kelley has been in Cork Prison since he was charged in February.

Last week, it emerged that Mr Kelley had hired high profile criminal solicitor Frank Buttimer.

56-year-old Mike Gaine was last seen on the morning of 20th March when he bought phone credit in Whyte's Centra, Kenmare.

On the 25th May, remains found on his farm were confirmed to be his, ending over two months of speculation as to his whereabouts.
