A Tralee councillor has called for Kerry County Council to exercise discretion when giving out parking fines.
Fine Gael Cllr Angie Bailey put forward the motion at the recent meeting of Tralee Municipal District.
She argued that the risk of being hit with a fine is discouraging people from shopping local.
Cllr Bailey also asked that more consideration be given to vehicles with previously valid parking tickets that have not long expired.
She added that appealing fines is ‘another job on the list’ for people with increasingly busy lives, and that she would prefer to see more discretion exercised.
