A Tralee charity, which provides food hampers at Christmas time, says it's clear that the cost of living crisis is still badly affecting people.
Founder of Tralee Soup Kitchen, Collette Price, says, there is an increase in the number of people who usually donate food for the Christmas hamper drive, not being able to contribute this year.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) says the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3.2% in the 12 months to November.
This is the highest annual rate of inflation observed in the CPI since February 2024 when the rate was +3.4%.
Ms Price says, despite great support from the Tralee community, the cost of living crisis means fewer people can afford to donate:
The kitchen relies on community support, including regular donations and volunteer efforts.
Ms Price says the best way to contribute financially, is to pay into Tralee Food Kitchen's account at Terry's Butchers on Oakpark Road in the town, which supplies all their meat.
The kitchen is open to all every Saturday, regardless of denomination.
