Topographical surveys are currently being undertaken for the N22 Farranfore to Killarney bypass project.
This is a specialised type of land survey that maps the area and it’ll take place over the next three weeks.
Kerry County Council says these surveys will include greenfield areas along the preferred corridor, as well as sections of the existing N22 and adjoining local roads.
Murphy Geospatial Ltd has been appointed to carry out these topographical surveys for the N22 Farranfore to Killarney Project.
These surveys are starting in Farranfore this week and will progress towards Killarney over the next three weeks.
Frank Hartnett, director of services with Kerry County Council, says there will be minimal traffic disruption while these surveys are being undertaken.
He also confirmed that the ground investigation contractor is due to begin works on November 3rd and this will be a six-month contract.
This update was provided during the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council, at which Kerry Independent Alliance councillor John O’Donoghue tabled a motion seeking an update on the N22 project.
The council confirmed that phase 3 design and environmental evaluations work are underway and will progress throughout this and next year, ahead of the statutory application to An Coimisiún Pleanála in 2027.
The council told Cllr O’Donoghue that engagement with landowners in relation to the fieldwork is also underway.
