A Kerry TD has condemned the announcement that Vodafone customers will no longer be able to pay bills at An Post.

Michael Cahill was reacting after it was announced this service would no longer be available from October.

He described the move as a snub to the residents of rural Ireland and believes the availability of such services is vital for every community.

However, Vodafone says it's transitioning its over the counter service from An Post to Payzone.

The company added that customers will still be able to pay bills at any of their over 3,500 Payzone stores across Ireland, including its Kerry locations; or alternatively, set up a direct debit so bills can be paid automatically monthly.

Deputy Cahill says he’s taken aback by the decision, which he believes leaves many customers in the lurch.

The Fianna Fáil TD is pleading with Vodafone to rescind the decision and is calling on the communications regulator to intervene.

In response, Vodafone have stated it's transitioning its over-the-counter bill payment service from An Post to Payzone. This change will provide customers with access to over 3,500 Payzone outlets nationwide, many of which offer extended opening hours, including evenings and weekends, making it easier for customers to manage their payments at a time and place that suits them.

Vodafone Ireland adds to ensure a smooth transition, both An Post and Payzone will be available for payments until 25 September 2025. After this date, An Post will no longer process Vodafone bill payments.

The company advises it is communicating directly with all customers who have used An Post for payments in 2025 and are committed to supporting them through this change.

Vodafone says this move reflects its ongoing efforts to improve convenience, accessibility, and flexibility for our customers—including those who prefer to pay their bills with cash.
