Taoiseach Micháel Martin has advised the two Kerry schools affected by recently-announced cuts to their SNA staff, to appeal the decision straight away.
He's also vowed to raise the issue with Education Minister Hildegarde Naughton in the coming days.
Mr Martin was speaking in Tralee this morning, at the official opening of a new exhibition on the history of Fianna Fáil in Kerry.
Both Fossa National School and Glenflesk National School were told last week, they’re to lose Special Needs Assistants from next September following a review by the National Council for Special Education.
Fossa is to lose four SNAs- it currently has 10 - while Glenflesk National School, which has two teachers, is to lose one of its two SNAs.
It follows a review by the National Council for Special Education and has caused considerable concern among both parents and staff at both schools.
This morning, however, the Taoiseach told Radio Kerry News that he would 'have a look' at the situation:
Meanwhile Mr Martin officially opened the exhibition 'Soldiers of Destiny: The early years of Fianna Fáil in Kerry' which was curated by Kerry historian Owen O'Shea.
It will run at Kerry County Library in Tralee for the next two weeks, before moving to Killarney Library for another three.
