HSE South West says a new purpose-built endoscopy unit at Bantry General Hospital could cut waiting lists across the region, which includes Kerry.
The project, which cost in excess of €8 million, has two procedure rooms and six recovery bays.
The new unit can carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including colonoscopies; gastroscopies, proctoscopies and sigmoidoscopies.
HSE Integrated Healthcare Area Manager, Priscilla Lynch says, “This investment benefits not just the people of West Cork, but the wider population as the unit is receiving referrals from across the South West region."
HSE South West says if a Kerry patient’s GP refers them to one of the consultants working out of Bantry General Hospital, they can avail of the endoscopy service there.
