The solicitor of a couple who were arrested in relation to the murder of a baby more than 40 years ago says they have had no official communication from gardaí in three years.
Gardaí confirmed this morning that a file had been sent to the DPP in relation to the discovery of a baby boy’s body in South Kerry in 1984.
The body of the infant called ‘Baby John’ was discovered on White Strand in Cahersiveen on April 14th, 1984.
It's believed Baby John was three days old when he was killed; he was found with 28 stab wounds and a broken neck.
Gardaí from the Kerry Division, supported by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team, have this morning confirmed an investigation file has now been submitted to the DPP.
It follows the arrests of a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s in March 2023 on suspicion of murder.
They were both later released without charge.
At the time, Gardaí said DNA testing established the couple as Baby John's parents, but that it did not establish who murdered the infant.
Killarney solicitor Pádraig O’Connell represents the couple.
He says they only found out anecdotally that a file had been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions:
