The solicitor of a couple who were arrested in relation to the murder of a baby 42 years ago has criticised the length of time it’s taken gardaí to complete the investigation.
Gardaí have confirmed that a file had been sent to the DPP in relation to the discovery of a baby’s body in South Kerry on April 14th, 1984.
It’s believed Baby John was three days old when he was killed; he was found with 28 stab wounds and a broken neck on White Strand in Cahersiveen.
Killarney solicitor Pádraig O’Connell represents the couple who were a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s when they were arrested in March 2023 on suspicion of the murder.
They were both later released without charge.
At the time, gardaí said DNA testing established the couple as Baby John’s parents but that it didn’t establish who murdered the infant.
The couple’s solicitor Pádraig O’Connell has criticised the length of time the garda investigation has taken.
