The people of East Kerry are marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Social Action Group Rathmore.
It began when secondary school teacher Jerh O’Donoghue organised a discussion with students as to the kind of community and country they wanted to live in.
Social Action Group Rathmore’s achievements include providing 35 homes for older people and the establishment of St Joseph’s Day Care Centre.
An event to celebrate the group’s half century will take place at Killarney Racecourse on Saturday night.
Chair of Social Action Group Rathmore Donal O’Keeffe paid tribute to founder Jerh O’Donoghue.
