Smoky coal will be banned in Killarney from September 1st.

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Eamon Ryan has signed the regulations to extend the ban.

From September, the burning, sale and marketing of smoky coal will be prohibited in thirteen additional areas with populations over 10,000, which includes Killarney.

Minister Ryan says this measure will reduce air pollution and promote public health.

Tralee is already covered by the existing smoky coal ban.
