The number of new home commencements in Kerry has increased significantly in the first quarter of the year.
261 new homes have been commenced in the county to the end of March this year, according to the Department of Housing.
93 new homes were commenced in Kerry in the month of March, adding to January’s total of 154 and February’s total of 14.
21 of the homes which were started last month are one-off units, and the rest were part of larger housing developments.
It marks a significant rise in home commencements in Kerry, compared to last year.
This year’s tally of 261 for the first three months is almost as high as the total of 297 for the entire 12 months of last year.
It’s also the most active first quarter for home commencements in Kerry since the Department began tracking it in 2014.
It’s an increase of 295% on the 66 units commenced in the first quarter of 2025.
There were 23 commencement notices issued in March, which signals further home-building activity to come this month in Kerry.
