Shannon Ferry Group says it will conduct an internal review following an incident in which a man went overboard.
A man was taken to University Hospital Limerick following the incident on the Tarbert to Killimer ferry yesterday morning.
Shannon Ferry Group raised the alarm at 10am yesterday, after a passenger was reported to have gone overboard on its Tarbert-Killimer service on the Shannon Estuary.
Valentia Coast Guard tasked Rescue Helicopter 117 to the scene, with support from the RNLI, Irish Coast Guard, local vessels and Listowel gardaí.
The ferry stopped mid-estuary during the search, and the man was later found swimming near the Tarbert power station.
He was airlifted to UHL, and treated for severe hypothermia.
Shannon Ferry Group says an internal investigation will be conducted and praised the emergency services for its response.
A spokesperson for Shannon Ferry Group says it understands that the man is recovering ok and that the company has sent its well wishes to him and his family.
