Ireland South MEP Seán Kelly says he would like to sit down and talk with Irish politicians whom he accused of scaremongering regarding Mercosur.
Yesterday, MEPs voted to send the trade deal to the European Court of Justice for a judicial review, which is likely to delay its implementation by up to two years.
However, Germany is calling for the EU to go ahead and implement the deal while it is being referred to the court.
Fine Gael MEP Seán Kelly, who is from Kilcummin, voted against sending the trade deal to the ECJ.
He says this wasn’t a vote on the Mercosur deal, but a vote on whether the trade deal should be referred to the courts regarding its legality.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher voted to refer the Mercosur trade deal to the European Court of Justice yesterday.
He denied he was being populist in his decision, saying he has taken unpopular decisions in the past.
