RSA believes it can successfully reduce road fatalities despite Kerry's vote of no confidence

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) believes it can successfully reduce the number of fatalities on our roads.

That's according to the director of research, standards, and assurance at the RSA, Michael Rowland.

In January, councillors in Kerry passed a motion of no confidence in the RSA tabled by independent councillor Jackie Healy-Rae.

Minister of state at the Department of Transport, Seán Canney, has decided not to pursue a recommendation made in a November 2024 assessment of the RSA.

One of the report's recommendations included splitting the RSA's operational services from its media campaigns, research, and education programmes.

Last week, junior minister Canney, stated his belief that reform can be delivered more efficiently and effectively within the existing RSA organisation

He said he has directed his officials to prepare revised reform proposals in line with this decision.

When asked by Radio Kerry News if the RSA was confident that there will be fewer road deaths in Ireland this year than last, Mr Rowland said the RSA has achieved reductions in the past:
