Residential unit in Tralee receives extremely positive HIQA report

A residential unit in Tralee for adults with intellectual disabilities has received an extremely positive report from the healthcare watchdog.

The St. John of God Kerry Residential Community Services unit was inspected as part of the process to renew its registration (on 3rd June).

One staff member told the inspector that the centre was the “most joyous place to work”, while feedback from residents and families was positive.

The five-bedroom unit was fully compliant with 20 of 21 Health Act regulations.

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) inspector found the centre to be substantially compliant with one regulation, regarding written policies.

Some were being reviewed after a three-year period at the time of the inspection, and management told HIQA that training sessions would be arranged before the end of November (2025) to help staff implement these updated policies.
