A report by the health watchdog has found that residents of a Tralee-based service for people with intellectual disabilities are happy and feel safe.
It follows an inspection carried out by the Health Information and Quality Authority in April.
HIQA carried out an announced inspection at St John of God Kerry Services Residential Community Services in Tralee on April 30th.
The inspector’s report stated that the residents were receiving good support in the centre to enhance their quality of life, and the premises was well maintained and modern.
In surveys, residents explained they were happy with their living arrangements and felt safe in the centre.
Residents and their families also spoke highly of the staff support provided.
The St John of God residential community services was compliant across 15 areas of the Health Act 2007 and it was substantially compliant in training and staff development.
The inspector stated that there were effective systems in place for the training and development of the staff team and good oversight was being maintained for most staff working in the centre.
However, on the day of the inspection, evidence of up-to-date training for agency staff being used in the centre, in relation to fire safety and safeguarding, wasn’t available.
Further training was since carried out with agency staff.
