There was an increase in the number of homes granted planning permission in Kerry last year.
That’s according to the Central Statistics Office Planning Permissions report for 2024.
It shows there was a 39% drop nationally in the number of approvals for apartments last year compared to 2023.
However, the figures show in Kerry, there was a rise in the number of apartments given the green light in the period.
Nationally, the number of homes granted planning permission fell by a fifth between 2023 and 2024.
However, in Kerry, there was a sharp rise during the period, with approval granted for 723 houses last year, up from 337 the previous year.
There was a 63% increase in the number of apartments granted planning in the county, with 408 given the green light in 2024, up from 250 in 2023.
Approvals for new constructions on dwellings rose slightly - at 3%; while there was a 14% jump in approvals for extensions during the period.
Planning permission for alterations and conversion fell by 12%, with 192 approvals in 2023, down to 169 last year.
Meanwhile, there was a 3% drop in approvals granted in Kerry under the heading “New construction on other” – 334 receiving the go ahead in 2024, down from 344 the previous year.
