A report out today estimates that coastal flooding events could cost Kerry almost €107,947,000 in potential insurance claims.
That's according to the Coastal Flooding In Ireland 2025 report by Gamma Risk.
It states that rising sea levels, more frequent storm surges, and shifting weather patterns are converging to threaten both residential and commercial properties.
The Coastal Flooding In Ireland 2025 report states climate change is increasing the occurrence of extreme events in Ireland, and in future, what are now rare events will become more frequent.
It says that 4.5 per cent of all Eircode addresses nationwide, both residential and commercial, are at risk of coastal flooding.
While Dublin looks likely to be the worst affected, according to the report, other hotspots include the Shannon Estuary.
Gamma Risk also analysed the full rebuild cost of properties which are likely to have their own insurance policies.
For Kerry, this figure was little € 5,177,190.
The report concludes that the concentration of high-value claims, particularly in Dublin and along the Shannon Estuary, illustrates the scale of the challenge ahead.
