A Radio Kerry journalist has received a merit award at the annual Justice Media Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding journalism that contributes to the public’s understanding of justice, the legal system and access to justice issues.
Radio Kerry’s Emma McCarthy was part of an entry titled, “Justice for Joe” from the University of Limerick’s student newspaper, Limerick Voice, which received a merit award in the student journalism category.
The entry covered the efforts by the family and friends of Joe Drennan, a University of Limerick journalism student, to seek a more severe sentence for the man who killed him in a hit and run in October 2023.
Radio Kerry’s Jerry O’Sullivan and Treasa Murphy were also shortlisted for an interview with Tralee’s Liam Walsh, who sought information about harmful content on social media which he felt may have contributed to the death of his 13-year-old daughter Maia.
The awards ceremony took place this afternoon in Blackhall Place in Dublin.
