The Phoenix Cinema has called on the public for their views on reimaging, remaking and renewing the building.
The historic Dingle cinema was sold in November to Oscar winning actor Cillian Murphy, and his wife, esteemed artist Yvonne McGuinness.
The new owners are now seeking local engagement on the next steps for the theatre – which originally opened in 1919.
The iconic 150-seater, family-run Phoenix Cinema, was a mainstay in the local film industry for decades.
It was sold to Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness late last year for an undisclosed amount.
Members of the public are being invited to share their vision for the next chapter in developing a not-for-profit arts centre and cinema on the Phoenix site.
The new-owners say they would like to have a bigger conversation with neighbours and the community to include as many viewpoints as possible moving forward.
A series of events will be held at the premises on Dykegate Street in Dingle, to craft a plan for the theatre’s future.
The first, titled “listening” takes place on Monday June 23rd at 6PM, and aims to share the publics views and the owners research and vision for the project.
Further events will take place in August and September, titled “Sketching” and “Proposing”.
The owners say all are welcome to attend, and those unable to attend are urged to send suggestions and ideas to [email protected] .
