Residents of Inch in West Kerry say they're 'dreading' the forecasted spell of warm weather, as there aren't proper facilities to cope with the hundreds of visitors due to arrive at the beach this weekend.
In a protest held outside a meeting of Kerry County Councillors in Castleisland this morning, some locals claimed they can't get in or out of their own homes, as sun worshippers abandon their cars outside the houses of locals, in their haste to get to the beach.
A sum of €50,000 was allocated in 2021 for a Development Plan to provide proper facilities and infrastructure at Inch beach, but to date, it hasn't been drawn up.
Lack of proper parking is the main issue for locals, and there are serious concerns about safety, as protestor Katie Foley outlined:
Marie O'Shea says the toilet facilities are not adequate to cope with large crowds:
Protestors outlined their fears to Cllrs Robert Brosnan and Tommy Griffin, prior to the monthly meeting of the Castleisland/Corcha Dhuibhne Municipal District.
Responding to the delegation, the council agreed to look at forming an Inch Beach Infrastructure steering group.
They've also laised on this issue with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, which has purchased significant land in the area.
