The movement to dedicate landmarks to Daniel O’Connell continues apace in the county of his birth.
August will be the 250th anniversary of The Liberator’s birth at Carhan, near Cahersiveen.
Castleisland District Heritage has proposed that Main Street in Castleisland be renamed O’Connell Street in recognition of the sestercentennial.
The group says it is unaware of any main street in Kerry named after Daniel O’Connell.
The political leader, credited with bringing about Catholic emancipation, visited Castleisland several times.
Castleisland District Heritage has previously led successful campaigns to have three Kerry men executed in the 19th century posthumously pardoned.
Meanwhile, the board of Kerry Airport in Farranfore has decided against changing its name to honour the statesman.
Kerry Independent Alliance councillor John O’Donoghue had proposed the name change.
