A petition signed by over 1,000 residents highlighting a dangerous junction outside Killarney was reviewed by council members at a recent meeting of Killarney MD.
Residents have voiced their concerns over the Poulgorm Junction for several reasons, including inadequate lighting, the length of the slip lane, and the speed limit on approach to the junction.
The Poulgorm Junction is an intersection on the N22 road near Killarney, where the R569 Kenmare and Kilgarvan road meets the main N22.
At a recent meeting of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr. John O'Donoghue stressed that the junction was a "persistent issue" with accidnets happening on a weekly basis.
While TII has stated that it is not possible to increase lighting in the area, the councillor says that the lack of adequate lighting at the junction is a significant issue that needs to be addressed.
As well as this, he said that the length of the slip lane on the N22 for the R569 needs to be increased, as well as the addition of more signage.
Cllr Maura Healy Rae, who had brought the petition before the council, agreed that further works are required, stressing that the lack of lighting at the junction causes motorists to frequently miss the junction.
Cllr Niall Kelleher was also in support of the motion, stating that the junction is a major concern for residents in the surrounding area.
