Over 1,000 local residents have signed a petition highlighting their safety concerns regarding the Poulgorm Junction.

The junction is an intersection on the N22 road near Killarney, where the R569 to Kenmare and Kilgarvan road meets the main N22.

The petition has been forwarded to the Minister for Transport and Kerry County Council, in the hope that the voices of locals will be heard.

Cathaoirleach of the Killarney Municipal District, Maura Healy-Rae is requesting that both Kerry County Council and TII inspect the junction in relation to a number of issues.

These issues include the need for adequate lighting at the junction, extending the length of the slip lane on the N22 for the R569, and reducing the speed limity in advance of the junction.

Cllr Healy- Rae has also highlighted the need for speed and traffic surveys of the junction to be carried out immediately, as well as significant works to the Abhainn Garbh Bridge at Loo Bridge on the R569.
