The postponement of citizenship ceremonies, which were due to take place in Killarney this week, will result in a loss of €1.5 million to the local economy.
Over 12,000 people were due to attend these ceremonies in the Gleneagle Arena, Killarney tomorrow and Wednesday.
However, they were postponed over the weekend due to the fuel protests; they’ve been rescheduled to the end of June.
Chair of the Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels' Federation, Garrett Power says the postponement is a significant blow to the industry.
He says having the ceremonies this week would have been more beneficial to accommodation providers, as June is an already busy time for hotels:
