The planning process for the Tralee to Listowel Greenway is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
An update on the project was given to councillors at both the Tralee and Listowel Municipal District meetings.
The preferred route for the Tralee to Listowel Greenway will take in the villages of Abbeydorney and Lixnaw.
It’ll create a sustainable transport link between both towns and is expected to be approximately 28kms to 30kms in length.
Topographical surveys to inform the design of the Tralee to Listowel Greenway will be completed in the coming weeks; these surveys are true to scale maps and drawings.
Kerry County Council says the project is currently in phase three, which is a design and environmental evaluation.
It says the design team is currently engaging with adjoining landowners along the preferred route option.
The council also says the delivery outlook design and environmental evaluation will be finalised in the third quarter of this year, while the planning process is to commence in the fourth quarter of this year.
