Planning has again been granted for a new medical centre in Cahersiveen.
Kerry County Council has given the go-ahead for the centre on Main Street, which will involve the demolition of the current building.
Kerry County Council has twice previously granted the company planning permission to demolish the old supermarket building on Main Street and build in its place a new health and medical centre.
On both occasions, the decision was appealed to An Bórd Pleanála.
The national planning body overruled the council on the first occasion, and on the second occasion, the appeal was withdrawn before the planning body decided on the case.
Caraf Property Development Ltd applied for a third time for permission for the new medical centre, and for the third time the council has granted permission subject to conditions.
The council’s planner noted the current proposal is almost identical to the previous one which was granted permission, but the main difference is the development of offices at the ground floor level instead of office/retail uses.
The planner wrote the proposed development will enhance the area and not cause concerns for residential amenity, while the redevelopment of the vacant, three-storey building on Main Street will bring much needed vitality and vibrancy to the town of Cahersiveen.
Planning was granted subject to eight conditions, including that the existing three-storey front façade of the building be retained.
