People with symptoms of the winter vomiting bug have been advised not to visit University Hospital Kerry (UHK).
Also known as norovirus, symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, while others experience a mild fever, headache, stomach cramps, or aching limbs.
The HSE South West is telling anyone with a scheduled appointment at UHK but who is experiencing these symptoms to contact the hospital before attending.
Consultant in Public Health Medicine with the HSE South West, Dr Margaret O’Sullivan says norovirus is circulating at high levels.
At present, there are no changes to visiting arrangements at UHK, but the situation is being monitored and could potentially change.
The current visiting rules at UHK are:
- Monday to Sunday: 2pm–4pm and 6pm–8pm, limited to a maximum of two visitors per patient for a total of 30 minutes per patient.
- Extended visiting for maternity: 12.30pm–8.30pm for husbands/partners
HSE South West is advising symptomatic people not visit hospitals, nursing homes, or vulnerable people at home, and to avoid social visits to care settings while unwell.
