Stupid and reckless behaviour is starting wildfires that are endangering the lives of people and wildlife in Kerry.
The Manager of Killarney National Park and Divisional Manager with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), Eamonn Meskell, has spoken out following a recent spate of fires across Kerry and nationwide.
He cited incidents of irresponsible behaviour, including someone lighting papers on the forest floor and a disposable barbecue being used in Muckross.
Mr Meskell warned that conditions are extremely dry, worsened by persistent easterly winds and high pressure, creating an environment in which fires can very easily get out of control.
Eamonn Meskell says common sense is needed, and has appealed for people to take home all rubbish, including glass, that they bring into the park.
If you see a fire, contact the Gardaí and the fire service on 999 or 112.
