The fire service spent almost nine hours battling a gorse fire in South Kerry last night.
It was one of several gorse fires attended to by the Kerry Fire Service around the county yesterday.
Members of the fire service attended a fire in Tahilla around 3pm yesterday and remained at the scene until just before midnight to ensure it was under control.
This fire stretched along the roadside between Kenmare and Sneem and three appliances attended the fire in Tahilla – they were from Sneem and Kenmare while a water tanker from Killarney also attended.
There were also other gorse fires at Finnegan’s Cross in Kilcummin and crews from Killarney Fire Service attended this, while members of the Castleisland Fire Service attended a fire in Kilsarcon.
Another gorse fire broke out near Lauragh in Kenmare and crews from Castletownbere attending this as the Kenmare Fire Service continued to battle the blaze in Tahilla, while crews also attended a gorse fire in Kilbrean Mór which is lcoated around 2 miles from Spa, Killarney to tackle another large blaze.
Under the Wildlife Act 1976, it’s illegal to burn any vegetation on uncultivated land between March 1st and August 31st.
