A Castleisland woman who tried to run down her former partner and drove into his jeep has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Forty-one-year-old Joanna Federico, of Cois Abhainn, Castleisland, was convicted of two counts of reckless endangerment arising from an incident on the 11th of March 2024.
She was also convicted of one count of criminal damage arising from the same incident.
Tralee Circuit Court heard that Ms Federico and Eddie O'Shea, of St John's Park, Castleisland, had previously been in a relationship.
Summing up the case, Judge Alec Gabbett said that during a night out in March 2024, Ms Federico went home with a different man.
An altercation followed and she drove to confront Mr O'Shea on Main Street in Castleisland.
The court heard she attempted to run Mr O'Shea down before driving into the back of his jeep.
She was convicted of recklessly endangering Mr O'Shea by driving a vehicle at him, creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm.
She was also convicted of criminal damage to Mr O'Shea's vehicle, or being reckless as to whether it was damaged.
Mr O'Shea, who has since died, sustained just minor injuries.
However, the court heard that many lives were put at risk by the incident.
Judge Gabbett described Ms Federico's behaviour as "most reckless".
Video footage shown in court captured witnesses warning others not to get involved because it was too dangerous.
The court also heard that Ms Federico has 32 previous convictions, mainly for road traffic offences.
It was told she has had a difficult life and has a problem with alcohol misuse.
Judge Gabbett sentenced her to two years in prison, with the second year suspended for four years.
She was also disqualified from driving for four years.
