Over €2.3 million is being invested to improve cancer care across Kerry and Cork.
The HSE South West says this investment by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) will result in faster diagnosis, better treatment and more help for families and
Over €2.3 million will be invested into the region through this programme over the next 18 months.
This funding will support eight new projects and create 16.5 new healthcare jobs, including nurses, doctors and oncology support staff.
These posts will include specialists nursing support for patients in the rapid access lung service, a new family breast cancer pathway which will aid in early detection and a position in the regional team supporting adolescents and young adults with cancer.
It will also see the recruitment of a new patient support worker for breast cancer patients as well as a senior occupational therapist and speech and language therapist, to support an increased number of patients and families.
Regional Executive Officer with the HSE South West Dr Andy Phillips says this shows the HSE’s deep commitment to improving cancer care for everyone in the region. He says this will build services that people can rely on during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
