There are over 900 people waiting for a home support carer in the south west.
Figures provided by the HSE show 933 people were awaiting home support carers in Kerry and Cork as of the end of May this year.
It’s a slight reduction from 1,018 people waiting at the end of last year.
564 people are awaiting new support care in their homes, while 369 people are awaiting additional care hours in the south west.
The HSE says demand continues to increase due to population growth and increasing dependency of growing numbers of people aged over 80.
The figures were provided by the HSE to Sinn Féin TD for Cork East, Pat Buckley, in response to a parliamentary question.
