Over 400 complaints have been made about gardaí in Kerry in the last five years.
That’s according to figures from the garda watchdog, Fiosrú, provided to the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan.
Fiosrú is the statutory body which deals with complaints from members of the public about the Gardaí.
According to Fiosrú, 119 complaints were made by members of the public about gardaí in Kerry in 2020.
In 2021, there were 79 complaints made about gardaí in Kerry, and this rose to 102 in 2022.
80 complaints were made about Kerry gardaí by members of the public in 2023, and there were 58 complaints made last year.
Excluding the Dublin Metropolitan Region, just four other divisions in the country had fewer complaints across the five years than Kerry.
They were Kilkenny/Carlow, Laois/Offaly, Sligo/Leitrim, and Waterford.
The Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, said gardaí provide an invaluable service and as an organisation are committed to the highest professional standards.
