Over 130 vehicles in Kerry were seized by Gardaí for having no insurance during the first quarter of this year.
That’s according to figures provided by the Minister for Justice.
The figures cover from the start of January up to the end of March.
During the first three months of this year, 131 vehicles were seized for having no insurance, which is a breach of section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
Nationally, over 4,700 vehicles were seized by Gardaí under the act during the first quarter of this year.
Last year, 386 vehicles were seized in Kerry for having no insurance, according to these figures.
Last year, Gardaí seized over 18,800 vehicles that weren’t insured nationwide.
Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan says Gardaí plays a vital role in enforcing road traffic law and in making roads safer for all road users, including vulnerable road users.
He says since May 2024, frontline Gardaí can now check a vehicle insurance status while on the roadside.
Minister O’Callaghan received these figures from the Garda Pulse system, following a query from Labour TD Alan Kelly.
