The opening of a new women’s health hub in Tralee has been hailed as a new era for accessible care in Kerry.
The 9,700-square-foot unit is located at John Joe Sheehy Road, in a building recently constructed on the roundabout by Austin Stack Park.
The HSE hub is being run by a multi-disciplinary team from University Hospital Kerry, and has welcomed its first patients this week.
It brings together consultants, specialist nurses and midwives, physiotherapists, infant feeding experts, social work, perinatal mental health, and bereavement support professionals under one roof.
The hub is now accepting referrals from GPs and other medical professionals only.
Julie O’Neill, Integrated Healthcare Area Manager for Kerry, said this is an outstanding addition to healthcare services for the people of Kerry.
Ms O’Neill said further services coming onstream in the coming weeks there include colposcopy (Cervical Check), hysteroscopy, ambulatory gynaecology, and nurse-led urogynaecology.
General Manager of University Hospital Kerry, Mary Fitzgerald, said this type of project requires collaborative working which has been evident throughout, and it will provide exceptional care in an environment that’s calm, comfortable, and reassuring.
Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Michael Cahill has welcomed the opening of the women's health hub, and said it represents a real, tangible improvement in the services available to women at every stage of their lives.
