The Rose of Tralee International Festival has officially launched its search for the 2025 Rose Buds – and for the first time, boys will be included as Rose Buddies.
Traditionally, the Rose Buds programme was open only to girls aged six to ten, but it is now also open to boys in the same age group.
The Rose Buds and Rose Buddies will be paired with Roses and Rose Escorts, and participate in festival events like the Rose Parade and the live television show.
Festival director Suzan O’Gara said the decision to include boys was based on requests from families over the years.
The new initiative was announced at a launch event in Tralee, attended by Kerry Rose Emer Dineen, 2024 Rose Escort Tom Dowling, Sligo Rose Bud Holly Brosnan, and Rose Buddy Iarla Farrell.
Fairtree Village is the official sponsor for the 33 Rose Buds and 33 Rose Buddies who will be selected for the 2025 Festival.
The 2025 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from August 15th to 19th.

This year’s festival, sponsored by Fáilte Ireland, runs from 15–19 August and is expected to draw thousands to Tralee over the five days.
